Privacy
This site counts visits so we know whether anyone reads it. It does that without storing anything on your device and without sending your data to anyone else, which is why you were never asked to accept anything.
Consent banners exist because of a specific rule: you must be asked before a site stores or reads information on your device. That is what a tracking cookie does. This site stores nothing on your device at all, so there is nothing to ask about. The banner isn't hidden or deferred. It's genuinely not required.
We use GoatCounter, self-hosted on our own server in the EU. It is open source, and we run it ourselves rather than handing your visit to an analytics company.
To tell one visit from another without a cookie, the software takes your IP address and browser, mixes them with a secret that is thrown away and regenerated every day, and keeps only the resulting hash. Because yesterday's secret is gone, yesterday's hash can never be matched to today's. There is no identifier that persists.
The honest trade-off: we can't tell whether you've been here before. Our "visitors" number resets daily. We accept a less useful statistic in exchange for not tracking you.
What is recorded

What is not
That last point is worth spelling out. Many sites that claim not to track you still load fonts, icons or scripts from someone else's server, which quietly hands over your IP address before you have read a word. This site loads nothing from anyone else. The fonts are served from this server, and apart from the counter there's no JavaScript on the page at all.
Server logs
Like every web server, ours records each request in a log, and that log does contain IP addresses. This is unavoidable: it's how a server answers you at all. It's kept only to spot attacks and diagnose faults.
These logs are automatically deleted after 14 days, are never combined with the analytics above, and are never shared. They aren't used to build any profile of you.

The site and its analytics run on servers in the European Union, operated by TerraOps. Nothing is transferred outside it.
